When there’s no more room in Hell …

… the dead will blog. Ah! The inaugural post of OP-dEaD. Unfortunately, this post isn’t about horror movies. It’s about blogging. According to this source, “[s]everal studies indicate that most blogs are abandoned soon after creation (with 60% to 80% abandoned within one month, depending on whose figures you choose to believe) and that few are regularly updated.” Yikes! Seems I’m in for a bigger uphill battle than I’d anticipated.

John Scalzi puts a humorous spin on this transient tendency, breaking down the “vast majority of blogs” into three posts a typical blogger bothers to create before he or she moves on:

  • Post One: “Here’s my blog! This is where I’m going to share all my thoughts about life, the universe and everything! It’s going to be great and I can’t wait to tell you all what I’m thinking about and everything!”
  • Post Two: “Hey, sorry I haven’t updated in a while – life’s been crazy. But I’ll be back soon.”
  • Post Three: “Here’s a picture of my cat.”

Will my blog follow this dispiriting trend? Will the demands of everyday life mean that I give up on my navel-gazing horror blog before it’s even off the ground? (Or should I say, “out of the ground,” since I’m a zombie?) And most importantly, will I now have to get a cat, so that I can post a picture of it in my third entry?

Your guess is as good as mine.

For now, I just wanted to say that here’s my blog! This is where I’m going to share all my thoughts about horror movies, the universe and everything! It’s going to be great and I can’t wait to tell you all what I’m thinking about and everything!
